Flying Fish 45 Seconds

 

Guinness World Records lists a flying fish's flight above sea level for 45 seconds as the longest recorded flight of this species. This footage was recorded in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan in 2008 by a crew of NHK's nature program.

A fish jumps out of the sea and flies above the surface of the sea traveling at a speed of 30 km per hour. The fish occasionally slaps its tail on the surface of the sea to maintain speed. "Its flight was so long that I thought I might have mistaken a bird for a fish," says the cameraman.
